10 beautiful places in dalhousie

An avid traveller by childhood, I was always attracted towards hills and mountains where i could see the nature at its best. Widely traveled across the world, I am still in love with Dalhousie – the pristine town nestled in the Dhauladhar range of Himalayas. Everything over there beholds you forever – the lush green mountains, gushing rivers and the colonial British architecture; this time I made sure that I stay for long. I took the services of RS Taxi Service Chandigarh and I sat with them crafting my own itinerary, these guys were super helpful and yes very affordable too.

There are numerous points and places to explore Dalhousie and it is a haven for everyone – those who come to see the nature’s beauty, adventure sports, admire the vintage architecture. Dalhousie has an old world charm where life seems to go at its own calm pace and so is a must visit for those who seek bliss far from maddening crowds.

Best Time to visit Dalhousie –

Winters – December to February

Summers – March to May

Khajjiar – The mini Switzerland of India

Why go and visit Switzerland paying so much money when you get the same here in Dalhousie. Khajjiar – is surrounded by thick deodar and pine trees and snow capped mountains. A serene spot for family picnic, here is where you can unwind, rejuvenate and rejoice. My driver from RS Taxi Service Chandigarh who was a native of Khajjiar took me to places where I could take a bite of authentic Himachali cuisine.

Dainkund Peak

One of the highest places in Dalhousie, from here you can catch amazing glimpses of green hills, valleys and not to forget the three rivers – Chenab, Ravi and Beas. These rivers flowing below cover the plains and present a majestic view. One could spent an entire day just admiring the natural scenery just as I did here.

Kalatop wildlife Reserve

One of the best wildlife sanctuaries of Himachal Pradesh, this wildlife sanctuary is home to the Himalayan Bear and other wild animals. River Ravi is a the water supply source to this park. Its home to varied flora as well – blue pine, oak, deodar and wild daisies all make this park a must visit.

St. Francis Catholic Church

Constructed in European style architecture, St. Francis Catholic Church was established in the year 1894 and no wonders it is a not to be miss place in your list. The vintage charm the serene environment attracts one and all.

Panchpula

Glistening water streams, alluring view of the waterfalls and besides it lay the Samadhi of the great freedom fighter Sardar Ajit Singh, Panchpula is the main source of water supply to Dalhousie town and nearby villages. Good for trekking, on your way one could enjoy breathtaking views of the valley, just as I did and captured them too in my camera.

Ganji Pahari

You might find the name to be hilarious but as there is no vegetation on the hill top, and so it is Ganji Pahari. It is a trekker’s paradise truly. Reaching the hill top you could enjoy amazing views of the valley, mountains, rivers and the beautiful Dalhousie town. I spent around 2 hours over there basking in the nature’s beauty and must say, was truly mesmerized.

Satdhara Falls

Enroute to Sathdhara Falls, I stopped by Satdhara falls as people say that these falls have amazing medicinal and healing properties. The name Satdhara comes from the seven streams that come down from a height and present a picturesque view. It is one of the finest places in Dalhousie to visit.

Rang Mahal

Yes, it is not just nature that is at its best in Dalhousie, you would be mesmerized when you visit Rang Mahal – it is where you would find an eclectic blend of Mughal and British architecture. One of the very popular historical tourist attraction in Dalhousie, the walls of the Mahal are adorned with paintings depicting various life stages of Lord Krishna. I am not a history freak but the way this place is maintained and kept, it attracts a lot of tourists every year. I picked some souvenirs for my friends from the Himachal Emporium inside the Mahal that housed handmade clothes made on wooden looms.

Chamera Lake

An artificial; lake built over the river Ravi, Chamera hydroelectric project is again a major source of water supply to the town and surrounding villages. Besides the scenic location, this dam is located, one could even enjoy some adventure water sports like river rafting, motor boating, kayaking etc.

Mall Road

Just like any other hill station, you would find a mall road here in Dalhousie too. But what makes it so different from others is that one could catch breathtaking views of the entire Pir Panajl mountain in ranges which is mostly clad in ice. Another reason is obviously shopping and trying out some special himachali cuisine. I visited Mall Road every evening just to chill out and sit remembering how my entire day has gone and I have captured so many beautiful moments in my camera to be cherished for long.
